A big thanks to everyone who came down to visit Celestion at the NY Amp show last Saturday May 9. Together, we rocked the place!
The Amp show, based in Piscataway, New Jersey, saw tone hounds from miles around come to check out the finest in vintage and boutique amps. Visitors to the Celestion suite had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to check out and play through legendary Trainwreck and Dumble amplifiers, arguably the two most valuable and sought after guitar amps of all time (courtesy of our good friends at Ultrasound rehearsal studios, New York). Featured amps included:
The Trainwreck Express amp, "Suzanne", which was hand built by legendary amp guru Kenneth Fischer in 1992. It was custom built for and originally owned by George Lynch. "Suzanne" is a very aggressive amp with loads of gain on tap and she wants to take off singing with every note played. Ken had this amp dialed in for hard rock with bold tight bass, huge midrange complexity, and soaring beautiful top end.
The Trainwreck Liverpool amp, "Marg", was hand built by Ken in 1994. Marg has gorgeous chimey cleans and creamy rich overdrive with massive harmonic complexity and warmth. A Liverpool’s fat singing sustain with single coil guitars is legendary and Marg is one of the best ever built. The synergy of tone, response, dynamics and feel between a Liverpool and a single coil guitar is the stuff of legend - It truly must be heard and felt to be believed.
The Dumble ODS100 serial number 167 is considered a masterpiece and absolute tone magic. This beauty was made during the "Golden Period" when Alexander Dumble built his finest sounding amps and the lead voice had reached full maturity and smoothness. ODS# 167 is extremely rare because only a handful of dedicated EL34 powered ODS100s were made at this time.
To complement these magnificent amplifiers, there was an embarassment of Celestion speaker riches to play through, including:
>Bruno 2X10 tuned half open back spruce cabinet, with G10 Gold 10” speakers
>Bruno 2X10 tuned half open back spruce cabinet with G10 Greenback 10” speakers
>Bruno 2X12 (tuned football opening) spruce cabinet with Celestion Heritage Series G12-65s
>Bruno 2X12 tuned half open spruce cabinet with Celestion Gold 12” Alnico speakers
>Bruno 2X12 tuned half open back solid cherry hardwood cabinet with Celestion Blues
>Three Monkeys 8 Ball closed back 4X12 Baltic Birch cabinet with real basketweave grillcloth and Celestion Heritage Series G12Ms - the 20 watt greenbacks
The day culminated in a $1000 prize draw which saw Celestion give away the Bruno 2x10 cabinet loaded with two all-new Celestion G10 Gold Alnico speakers. The lucky winner was Robert J. Condemi. So congratulations Robert, we wish you many happy hours in the woodshed...
Once again, thanks to all who attended for making this such an awesome day!
The attached images show US Sales Manager congratulating Robert J. Condemi on winning a Bruno 2x10 cabinet loaded with G10 Golds in the prize draw, and some of the cool gear that was available to play in the Celestion suite.
